Day 7 - a whole week?

Day 7 – Have I really been doing this for a week, is that why my butt is starting to hurt after four hours of riding?
First order of business was to visit the O’Shaunessy Dam – and the ride in to the dam was awesome! Took the obligatory photo and then it was off to retrace my route in looking for a campground the night before. It was still pretty the 2nd time around, and just as crowded. I took Highway 41 south out of the park and went from over 6,000 feet in elevation to under 1,000 feet. I’ve heard that the temperature drops a certain number of degrees for every 1000 foot in elevation gain, and my guess is that it drops about 7 or 8 degrees. No cell service out in the boonies, so I don’t know how hot it was, but over 100 for sure. Instead of taking the red roads on the map from Yosemite to Kings Canyon I took the little skinny black roads, Mostly twisty hills through scrub oak, a couple of orange groves here and there and I’ll bet that I didn’t see 30 cars in almost one hundred miles. Those little circles on a map with a name next to them? Down here it does not indicate a town. It might indicate a boarded up saloon or restaurant, a wide spot in the road, but certainly not anything which reminded me of civilization. But the ride was awesome and will go down on the best rides list. Oh – the park is really gorgeous and the mini store has the big 22oz Fosters in a can. Woo Hoo!
Miles today 219/2630 cumulative
Best thing today – You’ve seen those guys standing at intersections with the signs that look like an arrow advertising condo’s or mattresses or whatever. Today I saw THE MAESTRO in sign gymnastics! This guy could spin it, grab, it, spin on his head, his fist, his knee, it was twirling so fast if he could have just adjusted the pitch on the thing he would have taken off like a helicopter!

Challenge today – I did not wear my white jeans while riding. I find that I stay cooler wearing white, but I chose to wear the blue denim. I was warm! Tomorrow, the white jeans again, and I break out the cooling vest for the ride to Panamint Springs.
