Mother was calling me......

Day 12 – Mother was calling and I had to go see

Geez, I’ve been off the bike for exactly one day, doing what you do in Vegas – going to shows, contributing to the funding of the casino electrical bills (I would like to point out that as of this point-in-time I am up $100, so you might need to turn off those light for 30 Mr. Casino Beancounter guys) and enjoying the cornucopia of adult beverages available for consumption. But this was as close to Route 66 as I was going to come. Mother was calling m3e and I had to go see.

Nothing remarkable about the trip to Kingman where Highway 93 and I40 intersects The Mother. Except for the headwinds both ways, just how was that arranged? Oh, and the crowds and traffic across the Hoover Dam? Well, lest just say that it made the crowds and traffic in Yosemite look light. I mean this traffic was like I5 in Seattle when the express lanes are shut down. It was slow, hor, cars were overheating and so was I.

And to tell you the truth, the ride along The Mother was unremarkable too. The road goes up and down, there are turns and kitschy stores, tourist traps and Saloons, but on the surface – so what? Unless you take the time to learn a bit about her, you’ll never appreciate the place that she played in America’s history. The song. The Okies and the Dust Bowl. The new opportunities out West. Chicago to Santa Monica 2448 miles – what a journey!

Miles today 264/cumulative 3496
Best thing about today – being able to spend time with my family fore the past couple of days
Challenge for the day = it’s freaking HOT in the desert, especially when you’re stuck in traffic and the radiator is blowing hot air on your leg…….

Kitsch on Route 66
They signage promised me kicks. I got lunch and a small pitcher of amber. Close enought for me!
Is this water level low for July?

The new bridge that they are building:

Traffic, traffic, everywhere!
